about

Maybe you were shy, a slow bloomer. Or perhaps at that age you were just a little slow on the uptake. But it wasn't until you showed up at your senior prom - the biggest cliff you'd ever peered over, the very end of all things as you had known them - and you saw her there, saw all of them there, in their black frames and dresses and tattoos…and you had the first semi-adult realization of your life: that the cool girls, the smart girls and the foxy girls were one and the same. They always had been.

But you were mistaken: It wasn't the end of things. Really just the beginning, of course.

Makes sense as regards Slumber Party. The band is an evergreen, never out of season.

Slumber Party are a quartet of women from Detroit, MI, but if you think you know what that means, you'll be tripping yourself up. This band has more in common with the boss sounds you would've heard on a Friday night at the Hideout (right next to the Bunny Club, can't miss it) in the mid-'60s than any garage revival. In the hands of Slumber Party, rock is new and young, full of melody and what's possible; there's no looking back, only forward. The new album is 3 (no points for guessing how many others they've made), which means these lasses have the wisdom of experience. With Godzuki's Dion Fisher at the board, the band sings, swings, plays and sways through a gauze of reverb - a regular Hedgerow of Sound. And you will dance, with their four-part harmonies lifting you to whatever heights you want to reach. But beware: Slumber Party's sweetness and light has a bite. Is Aliccia Berg singing that she's in trouble? Or that she is trouble? You tell us.
These are the girls you were told to watch out for. The women you want on your side. The ones who are never on anyone's side but their own.
But it isn't too late for you. Slumber Party are always here…and they've saved you a dance.
